Bharat Environment News is an independent environmental journalism section that reports on regulatory change, pollution data, climate policy, biodiversity, waste management and sustainability across India. We publish original reporting, data-driven investigations and plain-language explainers of environmental law aimed at citizens, industry professionals and policymakers alike.

India's environmental story rarely fits into a single headline. A river's water-quality data, a state's stubble-burning enforcement record, a company's emissions disclosure filing — each of these lives in a different government portal, a different audit report, a different dataset, usually written for specialists rather than the public. Our work is to pull those threads together into reporting that a concerned resident, a compliance officer, and a policymaker can all read and actually use.

Who We Are

Bharat Environment News is published by Bharat Environment Consultants (BEC), an environmental compliance and regulatory consultancy established in 2005 and headquartered in Gurugram, India. While BEC advises industry clients on environmental clearance, waste compliance and ESG reporting, Bharat Environment News operates editorially independently — our reporting is not written to promote BEC's consulting services, and our news coverage does not carry consultancy advertising or "talk to our experts" calls to action. We disclose this relationship openly because we think readers deserve to know exactly who is behind the reporting they're trusting.

Our Editorial Standards

• All articles are independently written and bylined, drawing on official government data, regulatory filings, and publicly available reports from bodies including the CPCB, NGT, SPCBs, and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
• We distinguish clearly between reported facts, official figures, and editorial analysis — you should always be able to tell what a government agency said versus what we concluded from it.
• Sources are cited within each article, and we note when figures come from different survey methodologies or time periods to avoid misleading comparisons between numbers that were never meant to be compared directly.
• Corrections and updates to published figures are made transparently as new official data becomes available, rather than silently edited without a record.
• We avoid alarmist framing where the underlying data doesn't support it, and we avoid understating a genuine crisis where the data does support it. Neither extreme serves our readers.

What We Cover

Our reporting spans air and water quality, river rejuvenation programmes, municipal and hazardous waste management, biodiversity and forest conservation, climate policy, carbon markets, and regulatory frameworks including EIA, CTE/CTO, EPR, BRSR and the Solid Waste Management Rules. We're a small, growing publication, and we would rather publish fewer articles that are genuinely thorough than pad our archive with shorter pieces that don't add anything a reader couldn't find faster elsewhere.
